Reynolds Consumer Products has expanded its trash bag stake with the acquisition of the U.S. operations of Trans Western Polymers Inc. of Livermore, Calif.
Reynolds said it will combine the purchased business with its Presto Products subsidiary, thereby expanding its private-label trash bag operations. Trans Western runs a bag plant in Tamaqua, Pa.
Trans Western operations in China were not indicated to be part of the deal announced Nov. 5.
Reynolds stated in a news release that the combination will leverage scale, balance manufacturing footprint, improve distribution efficiencies and expand production capacity. Both businesses make private-brand trash bags for national retailers.
Presto also makes private-label food bags, disposable containers, closures, soil stabilization products and specialty stretch films. The Reynolds subsidiary is based in Appleton, Wis. Reynolds’ headquarters are in Lake Forest, Ill. Its consumer brands include Hefty bags.
“There is value in joining our very complementary platforms and product capabilities,” noted Presto President Rita Cox in a news release.
Trans Western makes and distributes bags for mass merchandisers, grocery and drug chains and dollar store channels. It was established in 1983.
Reynolds declined to comment beyond its news release. Trans Western officials were not available for an interview. |
