Lakeland Mold Co., which makes cast and machined aluminum tooling for the rotational molding industry, is evolving and has changed its name to Avantech.

“We do more than make tools and we want the world to know it,” said owner Tom Haglin, in a news release.

The new name combines the Spanish word, “avante,” which means moving forward and “tech,” which reflects the company’s commitment to finding solutions through cutting-edge technology. The Brainerd, Minn., company has also built a new website, www.avantech.com, to tell its story.

The company has invested heavily in new machinery and currently has 10 machining centers, including both Doosan and Haas machines, according to Tom Innis, vice president of sales and marketing. It also has 100 employees.

He said the company started 26 years ago, and has expanded its services and reach over the years. Haglin bought the company in 2012 and is working to help its customers extend their global footprints.

“We do have a robust and growing engineering capability, so we really want to infuse the engineering part of it when we first engage the customer. We do everything from the design to the engineering and construction of the tool,” Innis said.

He said early involvement in projects helps keep quality up and costs down all along the production chain, and that’s what customers are seeking more and more. Avantech can analyze the customer’s needs at the start and optimize a plan of action.

The company provides tooling for rotomolders in industries such as agriculture, health care, outdoor recreation, floor care, water sports, home furnishings, construction, material handling and toys.

Innis said the company has been changing to keep up with customers who are seeking a wider global footprint and that the name change will be a reminder that the company can provide the right services.
